Social media managers usually wear multiple hats and offer numerous services to their clients. This post looks at several services you could consider offering to clients to beef out your packages and add additional revenue streams.

  1. Content scheduling Scheduling social media posts is time consuming, and it can be down right annoying. As a social media manager, you can offer content scheduling (where the client provides all of the content), and you provide optimised captions and hashtags. It's a great addition as a small package or starting off point for new clients who may want to test the waters.

  2. Strategy creation Social media strategy is the baseline to any content plan. It's a valuable thing you can offer clients either on an ongoing basis if you're managing their accounts, or as a one-off thing you can customise for them for a fee.

  3. Profile audits When profiles aren't performing, an audit can be a great way to find out what might be going wrong. Like strategies, audits can be offered to your actual clients or to people who pay for it as a once off service. You can break down their profile, deep dive into their content and find out what is working, what isn't, are their captions working, are they using hashtags correctly etc. You can also look over their bio and content styles to make suggestions.

  4. Content creation It might sound strange but creating content isn't necessarily part of a base level package for social media managers. It takes a lot of time to create content, script videos, set up shots, edit them, then create meaningful captions. By adding it on as a service, you can charge more for the package.

  5. Graphic design This is part of content creation but general graphic design is a good skill to add on as a service. You could only design posts for their social media, so pinterest pins, images for carousels, but you could also offer assistance with email marketing graphics, flyers and advertising material.

  6. Social media advertising This another one of those things that doesn't automatically become part of a social media manager's skillsets. It's a good one to have, but you should practice first before playing with your client's budgets. You'll want to understand how to create campaigns on several platforms, how to maximise their effectiveness and how to get the most from a budget.

  7. Influencer marketing Brands are interacting with influencers on a regular basis but most of them don't have the time to handle outreach, contracts, management and monitoring. Part of this could be managing UGC content, and it's a great service to offer your clients.

  8. Email marketing If you like email marketing, this is a great skill to add. You could offer to manage your client's email marketing from signups, welcome series, updates, blogs etc. You can leverage some graphic design skills here to create the materials needed. I strongly suggest looking up email best practices so you know what will be effective for your clients.

  9. Writing content Most social media managers are good at writing and creating copy. If this is something you enjoy doing, you should consider offering copywriting as a skill. If your client has a blog, not only does that create more content for you to share on social media, it's a great service for extra income.

  10. Digital products (like Instagram templates) This service isn't aimed generally to your current clients. Instead, it's for those who come across your page and are interested in buying templates from you. Think like strategy guides, Instagram templates, stories etc.

So there you go! 10 services you can offer as a social media manager to add weight to your packages and increase your revenue.

Which ones should you actually offer?

This is entirely up to you. My advice is to go with whatever services resonate with you the most, which skills you have or are willing to build on and what interests you. Start off slow and add to your services as you get comfortable with them.
